The last level I've gone through in a speedrun is the one where you start out with a bat and you have to kill a bunch of guys. I've gone up against a guy with two uzis and had 8 painkillers and the guy still killed me. Painkillers do help me out, but not that much in the long run. For me, however, if I get hit once, I'm pretty much dead. Just like other speedruns, I try to not get hit as much as possible. I don't think that getting 5 painkillers in one level is going to save you 20 seconds in another level. I'm so use to recording in Max Payne by now, I feel weird if I'm not recording. If they were worse off, I applaud them cause this is a very hard game.Īll of the times I've put up on this forum have been ones I've recorded. So if someone has a better time than me on a level and started the level at a different health than me, good for them and I think their run should be used instead of mine. Even though a person can start a level in Max Payne with almost no health left, I can guarantee you that there are people who can still beat that level with that amount of health. I know that for Quake speedrunning they would make it so that if a person ended a level with 25 health, they would start the next level with that much health. I have to press the fire button again to make him stop.Īnyway.I hope that answers your questions. There are a few times when Max Payne gets glitchy and continously fires his weapons. If someone did do that, they'd have to be very careful.Īnother bad thing is that my computer should be a hair more powerful for recording the runs. 3/4 of the kills are timing ones.where they always appear 2 seconds after you reach a certain point, but many of them, depending on where you're at, will do things differently.the 'differently' part is what makes a whole game run literally impossible. The AI is smart.and for some reason, you can go through the same level a hundred times without being killed at all and then suddenly, one of 'em gets a shot in and your dead. There is almost no way for me to do the first part of the game or the whole game in one run. I'm doing it on the easiest setting which is still very hard. I could possibly shave off another 10 seconds if I didn't use bullet time at all and if I shot the three guys with one shot each (the ones you deal with right after you get some health near the staircase). That saved me probably a half minute and then the ending I used grenades to save time.
I figured out a way, in that level, to kill off four guys without having to use bullet-time. Most of the other levels are pretty good. The bad thing is that there are several guys that take at least two shotgun shots unless you get off a lucky one right at their head. The level is spread out quite a bit, so I'd think that you could skim it down to about 5:30-6-ish if you killed almost everyone in one shot.
I know the 7:30 time on 8 is terrible, but I can say I've gone through it without dying. That's the prologue and the nine levels after it I now have the first part of Max Payne completed. I assume that I'll have to do a lot of saves in the last few levels, but honestly, I'm not looking forward to it. The reason why I wanted to go through the first two levels without dying was because I knew they were easier than other levels and I'm still knew to the whole VirtualDub thing and editing stuff out. I really doubt.and I mean really doubt that a person could go through the last level or two of the game without dying. The sad part is that I'm playing the game on the easiest setting and these first few levels are the easy ones. The reason is that I figure it takes up extra seconds when you're in slow-motion. I think in the last run I did I only did slow-motion twice. Do you want me to do a lot of slow-motion or not? Right now I only do slow-motion in certain situations. It took me about 10-15 tries to actually make it througth the level without dying. It's not that the game was 's that Max Payne was being an idiot and delaying his reaction time.Īnyway, I didn't even know if I could do the first level or two without dying, and you know what, I died several times.but I now have a run through the second level. I started trying this about a week ago but my computer set-up was so slow that I'd start firing a weapon and it wouldn't go off for like 5 seconds. If you want Max Payne speed runs.I'm workin' on 'em.
